This is fascinating and is full of hope for humanity. It is an embarrassment that the US has so many resources and metric shit tons of earth moving equipment sitting around as we don't employ it for earth works like these low tech ones. Instead of terraforming Mars how about terraforming desert and edge desert and restoring land we turned into desert?
