You will always hear the loudest crowd. For some decency, you need to search a bit, but we're not hopeless at all.
I'm also European. A few days ago, while reading here an American folk saying that Europe is doomed, I was watching a shop that sells bed sheets since 1720. I realised that if a small shop has a longer history than the US, then I think we'll be just fine.
The political situation in the UK is pretty grim right now. There are plenty of good people still, but politically this country is fucked and that's filtering down through the rest of society.
Any nation has its ups and downs, we can't get well without getting bad first. I hold your country and culture very close to my heart, and I'm not even a Brit, so I'm sure that a lot of Brits will have to say something when the time comes.
Only takes a small group of impassioned citizens to make big changes. God speed to your group!
