1967: Sukarno, the first leader of Indonesia, since gaining independence from Dutch colonial rule, was deposed in a US-backed coup that installed a military dictatorship. In the years that followed, the regime ki!!ed over a million Indonesian communists.

1973: Salvadore Allende, the democratically elected leader of Chile, was deposed in a US-backed coup. The pinochet dictatorship was installed in his place. Allende was deposed because he sought to restore Chilean control over its vast copper reserves.

1966: Kwame Nkrumah, the first leader of independent Ghana, co-founder of the Non-Aligned Movement and author of the book "Neocolonialism", was deposed in a coup backed by the US/Britain. Nkrumah attempted to modernize Ghana & hoped to build a united and prosperous Africa.

2014: Yanukovych, overthrown in the Maidan Coup in Kiev. Snipers were brought in by US, who killed both protesters and police, leading to more violence and a pretext to overthrow the democratically elected leader of Ukraine.
