Hypothetically, can a robot be conscious? Like Skynet in Terminator. In other words, do you have to be alive to be able to experience consciousness or could electricity flow through you and be aware of it?
Discussion
Im not high enough for that discussion

In other words, is existence the same as being alive. I would tend towards yes. But as technology progresses, maybe this changes.
Except for dolphins and whales, are other animals conscious? So in a way consciousness and being alive arenβt the same. So I still agree with our initial definition
I think that awareness of awareness is a good way to divide instinct and being aware probally can be reproduced in a robot at some point.
But being aware of your own thought process etc i think is the thing that makes us human
I think (high level of) intelligence could differentiate between instinct and being aware. Maybe certain animals have higher intelligence than others. But maybe not as much intelligence as humans. Just thinking out loud
Your question made me think of this. This is like 35 years old now.
Old Star Trek hits different than the new stuff.
Interesting π
