I'm going to be honest. I didn't make it past the intro. When they refer to the false dragons as whoever "he or she" is... I'm sorry. Jordan was already a firm feminist, wrote kick ass female characters... I'm not participating in the gender neutering of the story.
The entire premise of Jordan's system of magic was that men were affected by the taint, which made their use of magic dangerous. How the hell is it supposed to work sans that?
