It’s amazing how long MacBooks live. There is a guy sitting next to me with a MacBook Air, probably gen 1 or 2. And it’s working just fine.

Dude, I have a Lenovo S10, the first iteration from 2008, originally running Windows XP and for a long time now Linux Mint like a champ 16 years later.
