You aren’t wanting to use keet, an open source p2p chat / video app because tether complies with US government financial regulations? Keet isn’t tether. I don’t see the connection.

Keet is under the tether umbrella. Personally, I wouldn’t touch anything that has a deal with the FBI and secret service! Also I guess keet isn’t open sourced yet.
