8 year olds are children. No one ever debates that.
But 16 year olds? That's a tough sell. So to manage the INTENSE cognitive dissonance required, the people how try to believe that nonsense...

Deep down they know they are lying to themselves, so they get really pissed off when you challenge their strongly held, obviously false, beliefs.

@GoogleM4ps It's very much like an alcoholic who desperately needs those around him to believe he has it under control. He must convince himself too, at all costs. Just mention that he has a drinking problem and he lashes out swiftly and bitterly.
