Wildfires rage in Greece, forcing residents to flee their homes. A massive fire has burned over 100 square kilometers in Varnavas, north of Athens, with flames reaching as high as 25m (80ft). The town's residents have been evacuated due to the rapid spread of the fire. Since Saturday afternoon, a total of 40 fires have broken out across Greece, with firefighters still battling seven.

Climate crisis and civil protection minister Vassilis Kikilias has warned that extremely dangerous weather conditions will continue. Greece has experienced its hottest June and July on record. Firefighters are working tirelessly to contain the blazes, with the help of aircraft and helicopters.

The situation is being closely monitored by medical centers and hospitals in Athens, which remain on alert.
