I think you should ask yourself what your intentions are.

I just want the meat so I go straight for a half cow.

If you don’t have the freezer space ask a couple friends to go splits.

I believe the ‘own a cow’ can be done differently with different farmers. One such is like a subscription fee where they send you meat every month .. kinda like helping pay for the upkeep of the farm so to speak.
