I wanted it to be weird so people would have to stop and think about it. Saying "have an open mind" is cliche, so people just reference their historical knowledge of that concept without possibly updating it.

Having an open mind is more than just being open to new things. It is more than just being open to corrections. It goes all the way to being ready to discover that something you were sure about turns out to be wrong.

I thought by phrasing my original post as I did, it would be hard to misinterpret. I should have let it stand as I think explaining it has just muddied the waters. But let me clarify a possible misconception nonetheless.

I have opinions of which I am certain. Quite a lot of them in fact. And most of them have never changed. I'm not wishy-washy, nor hesitant to come to conclusions.

I am self-critical even of these certainties, at times, just in case, because I care more about truth than about my ego.

Gravity could fail at any time too, I’m not going to hold my breath waiting for the day when I let go of something that floats away when I expect it to fall though.
