User image uploads (memes, screenshots, food pics, etc) are not some type of very important file that justifies breaking their viewing compatibility while you figure out how to handle file and image sharing in a better way on #Nostr.

Absolutely. Links are good enough.

At least for now for that kind of content. Image sharing/uploading is fundamental to using social networks. It was one of the main features I saw new people ask about before built in uploading was a thing. The approach being taken is detrimental to Amethyst users.A better approach would have been to add this new method as an option for image uploads, but still default to traditional links. Warn users that it is still experimental and not supported by the rest of the network yet, so their images may not show up everywhere. Then the user gets to choose.

I fully agree πŸ˜€

Wut?

This is in reference to the way new way Amethyst is handling image uploads. Users on most other clients can’t view them. The new way is supposed to provide verification that the image displayed is the same one the user uploaded. I can see where that might be important in some cases with some types of files or if you’re selling images, etc, but who cares when you’re just sharing a screenshot or a quick meme. It would be better to leave the old way in place while implementing the new way as an option for ones when users need that.
