I can't see what you're replying to, but I agree in general. It's easy to take basic civil liberties for granted, until you've spent at least a full year living in a country where the authorities don't even pretend to recognise them.

Anglophone and European countries are far from perfect. but some of the political innovations they've adopted are worth preserving.
