I sometimes wonder where our nation would be if Ron Paul was elected. I don't know how effective he would have been, but his signaling would have moved us in the right direction.

Ron was never gonna change Washington from within. Whether he intended to or not, just by being himself, he became a meme, and the meme propagated the message farther than anyone had hoped.
