within the next 2-5 years, my wife and I will be relocating from California to a friendlier political climate.

fact is that we just want to be left alone (by the government), develop #friendships with real people who share virtues and morals like: #freethinking #selfreliance #freedom #sustainabilty just to name of few.

let's get real... #California refugees are getting a bad name by fleeing the state and bringing their horrendous politics with them, but my wife and I just want to live our senior years in #peace

some of our choices will be someplace as close to the climate we live in (long shot) but we know why people stay in California.

Other necessities are a #Musicscene #Baseball #Mountains #Healthcare #Recreation #Gardening #Homesteading

So! #Tennesee #Texas #Arizona #SouthCarolina #NorthCarolina and other #States with #Terrain

sound off and tell me if a sane, self sufficient, wants to leave you alone and live peacefully older couple is welcome in your state.

You sound like exactly the kind of people that we here in Texas need. The climate here might not be pleasant to adjust to from California weather, though. Good luck on your escape plan!

Thanks

we have some family in Houston and in Tyler

my preference in Texas would be Hill Country (outside of Austin)

Hill Country is beautiful, but it's tough homesteading. There isn't much soil out there. We looked at some properties out that way when we were shopping, but ended up buying a place to the east of Austin. All of the places we looked at to the west were rock with a few inches of topsoil. The place we have now has deep, beautiful soil that can grow anything that's suited for the climate.

I've got a friend who had a nice place in Johnson City, with a gorgeous view, but the whole thing was one big rock. Digging a well was going to cost so much, he ended up going with a big rainwater tank. Just some things to consider as you start shopping around.

But as far as the political climate and attitudes you're looking for, as long s you start away from the cities, you'll find people like that all over the state.

Here in Tx, as long as you stay out of the cities like houston, austin, you would most likely fit in. Our summers can be brutally hot though.

There are also pockets like the one you described all over the country. Just not generally near cities.

I am in Texas, building a house and homestead out in the country. We have those except for the mountains. One reason I now and then look at TN. #grownostr
