I just wanted to bring the 'very very common' thing up, but it's not what the article is mostly about lol. Merely gets mentioned, but it gets interpreted as meaning 'normie' or 'regular non-dev users'. Which I don't think was the intended meaning.
Techdirt article on Jack, Bluesky, mentions nostr a wee bit - written by a bluesky user.
I think Jack commenting that bluesky has attracted a 'very very common crowd' comment gets unfairly interpreted whenever I've seen it mentioned. I think he assumed a bit of reading between the lines? Well, I'm interpreting it as meaning the very very common 2010s Tumblr / Left Twitter positions and posturings - a pastiche kitsch protest punk rock sanctioned by HR departments. The mandatory positions you have to adopt to get art grants. Very very commonplace?
Eg:

(Maybe I've got this wrong lol)

Discussion
Bluesky is for the most part a nostalgia app for a time in the 2010s when a 'Be Gay, Do Crime' stixk-n-poke tattoo was a fringe radical statement, rather than the desktop background of the HR department.
It's not so much for twitter exodusees, but more a specific 2010s Left Twitter & Tumblr larper. Which is surprisingly large in number. But that success is probably at a peak? (Or maybe I'm wrong and there are loads more lolol). It is also a major problem for onboarding more interesting users.
Obviously bitcoin tourettes is a huge nostr problem. However seeing as there are only 24 of us, it would only take an influencer with a fanbase of 25 to outnumber the bitcoin slogans crowd here.
This is our strength lol
These are my #bluesky hot takes. Thanks for muting me.
Bitcoin Tourette’s, not heard that before. Accurate.
Bitcoing Tourettes Chatroom
I think I invented the phrase lol:)
And they say I don't contribute anything here 😤
Yeah man, I think that you make a good point about the Bitcoin content. It's nothing to worry about, because it's self correcting, and as the network grows, it will still be a very active part of the network with lively discussions, but it will have it's own corner and won't be front and centre as much as it is now, and there is nothing wrong with that.
The one thing that I can't forgive Bluesky, putting aside it's political leanings, is that they are openly in favor of censorship, and are anti privacy.
I think that speaks volumes.
It’s peaked because these folx are not progressing to the next stage of life where they have kids and stop being the center of attention
Goddam it I love this take. 🫂
