Does Linux just hate me? Or does it hate everybody?

I can’t get fedora kde version iso to even boot. SHA checks out. Passes its own internal test on boot and then hangs thereafter.

Am I destined to be a Ubuntu loser forever?

Why fedora? Is this for work?

Whats wrong with Ubuntu, too noob friendly?

Ubuntu is ok. Kde is a little buggy on Ubuntu though…Fedora also will run blockstream satellite so I can get all the bitcoin blockchain data without the internet (max privacy).

I have plenty of cpu & graphics to burn so I’m looking for eye candy.

I might try xerolinux but know nothing about arch and I don’t think blockstream satellite will install on it. Might have to learn docker.

Gotcha. Thanks for the detailed answer. Hope you get it all worked out.

Couldn’t get fedora kde to install. I downloaded xerolinux right before leaving for call shift tonight.

I don’t fully understand what makes one Linux distro different from another…although I gather zerolinux from intel is unique in that you can delete the /etc folder to essentially start over and reboot the system. But pita to setup (like write your own fstab).

To oversimplify, there are 3 types of linux distros that are different enough to not be fully compatable. Debian based (ubuntu) use .deb packages and tend to be for the average user. Fedora/redhat distros use rpm and tend to be for enterprise users. Then there's Arch, for masochists. Each use a few different terminal commands as well, so sticking to one flavor can be simpler.

Hey… 🤨

I’m not a pain puppy! 😂

Arch was one of my first attempts to use linux, it did not go well...

I've actually been meaning to give it another go now that I have at least some clue what I'm doing. I like the idea of a custom built, rolling release operating system.

I don't wanna be that guy, but if you're going to use Linux for serious work, and you have anything but the most vanilla hardware, you need to try Arch at some point.

I didn't buy the Arch Bro b.s. for a long time. Ran Gentoo for a good bit. But, it's just better. It's your machine, you get to run it your way, and get the best firmware, etc..

I’m trying xerolinux now…

Let me know how that goes. I'm not really into "rices" and use Plasma stock with widgets, etc for the functionality I need.

From a driver and firmware end, you should be able to get the latest and greatest since it's Arch based. My ThinkPad P1 gen 5 doesn't play nicely without the latest firmware, which is how I got started on my Arch journey.

If you have trouble, hit me up and I'll help if it's in my knowledge base.

Xerolinux is pretty. A lot of friendly aliases in .bashrc. Modern “pretty” versions of things like cat, although I’m not so sure how well that will play with shell scripts and pipes.

I’ve got some work to do to get blockstream satellite installed on this unsupported distro though…might have to wait a few weeks to get time to do it.
