Pop culture influencers used to have to go through the centralized media structure to become famous. The endorsement of the establishment was considered a stamp of legitimacy. We know now, this was a deceptive system.

But, follower number is the new deceptive stamp of legitimacy. Truth based on pop culture trends is not necessarily truth.

The people who use popularity as an inviolate proxy for legitimacy were lost to begin with, and never were going to find the truth.

They know we know it's a deceptive system. Part of me wonders how they use it to their advantage now. Polluting the air waves and psy-op us into not believing certain things.
