I think a lot of it is just read-receipts. But it'll be trending cos we are a bitcointwitter outpost still and bitcointwitter people throw us some bones and people still care. Because really they want to be on bitcointwitter lol. imo
It works every time tho. And primal amplify this and even more boring posts as 'trending'. Cos the assumption is everyone is from bitcointwitter. And it's a self fulfilling scenario, because the only people who stay here are 99% bitcointwitter. And no one can figure out why people don't stay lol. It's just a total mystery lolol
recently saw my friend who joined as well nostr:npub103t72hel4ltkdxru7y3e6y2awm7gr4sl5pyqal3tllcphfm6c20qazc6ac when i first joined, he saw me on damus and was shocked “damn you still use that, i saw it was only bitcoiners and deleted the app” 😭😭
Only mad people like us stay lolol. And I would've left ages ago if I was nostr-only tbh.
It has got a bit better, very very very slowly. Not enough to actually tell anyone to join here. (No point they won't last a day). But yeah it takes stubbornness to stay on something which is basically bitcointwitter2 in the hope it may turn out to be different eventually lol. That is basically the appeal. Will this project work, against all the odds -type thing? Lol.
A lot of people don't even seem to realise that twitter isn't just bitcointwitter, you can tell when they talk about 'twitter'. The furthest out of the BT bubble they've been is Lex Fridman and crypto twitter memes. And that pretty much shapes the culture here. The only real strategy for growth here is amplifying bitcointwitter brands who do token posts and appeal to bitcointwitter to join lol. Depressing.
But really the best content is on twitter (not Bitcointwitter obvs) still. And that is only being contested in any meaningful way by private groups and substack.
