I stopped using or relying on nostr:nprofile1qqsyv47lazt9h6ycp2fsw270khje5egjgsrdkrupjg27u796g7f5k0spzemhxue69uhk2er9dchxummnw3ezumrpdejz7qgwwaehxw309ahx7uewd3hkctcprdmhxue69uhkummnw3ez6vfwde3x7tnpdenkzmnf9e3k75xqss4 in the beginning of this year. I knew this was coming...

I still have an Alby node with millions of sats that closed on me and I never recovered it. I started a new one and then closed channels gracefully in January.

Generally lightning is a lot of work. It's so much work that I could either work on lightning or work on getting Fiat. Lightning doesn't pay the bills.

I'm cynical because I've invested much Fiat into Bitcoin and it's nearly all been a futile pursuit of whack a mole.

Definitely has pushed me not to trust too much in man made solutions.

I will continue to use Bitcoin but less and less will I talk about it. Nearly everyone I've introduced to Bitcoin (small number) I have had to apologize, help change, rearrange, reeducate and I'm no longer interested in getting anyone new involved. It's blessing edge and it's no good.

Those who strive to give quick solutions will not be around when your Bitcoin mechanism breaks. Bitcoin core is about the best thing going and BIP-39 but everything else is not dumb ass proof. By dumb ass I mean those of us who build things, make things and take care of things.

All businesses connected with Bitcoin are attack fronts and compliance is either going to happen or there will be dismantling.

It is what it is. Bitcoin is not decentralized enough.

I'm going to further add that I'm using:

1. Phoenix wallet -- nice, functional, small, easy recovery but expensive zaps ( 4 sats o send 21).

Con: I've paid for liquidity and have had it disappear within a month.

2. Phoenixd on Linux -- really nice to play with and solid as a rock. Great and very simple. Not cheap but it's a good thing for sending via lightning and then resending back on chain.

Con: Phoenix wallet on Android is a bit better and you can move your instance to another machine after you've gained liquidity in but you need to understand and play around to do this.

3. Blue Wallet

4. Bitcoin core

5. Jade older -- green wallet -- meh... Lots of actions to be taken to understandable and easy to complicated for me to explain in simple terms to a new person.

6. Cold card -- older version...

7. Ledger -- never with ledger software

8. Strike -- forward facing, regulated, but my sats, dox myself, send 75,000 sats for free to cold storage or zap nearly free for NOSTR. Also catch NOSTR zaps.

9. Cash App -- very handy. Lightning, but Bitcoin, I like Strike better but the ability to send Bitcoin to cash app and then to Fiat in minutes has been handy when I needed $20 for gas or something else off the cuff.

10. Cashu -- I don't trust it but I have it. I've lost 1000 sats and that's too much. Also I've found a vulnerability and I disclosed it and it was basically ignored or I was told that I was doing something incorrect 😂.

11. Breeze -- I have it.

12. Fold -- They lowered the withdraw to 30,000 which was nice. My bank (Credit Union) now offers better gift cards for only Fiat value and the percentage back is double or triple the Fold Bitcoin reward so I can just earn $3 and buy $3 of Bitcoin or better. I used to pay for premium membership but I have up on that once my Credit Union made better gift card offers.

13. Other things I use. I'm exhausted just from this. It's taken me since September 2019 to build up this arsenal and it's changed so many times.

I'm exhausted. I've forgotten so much. Like my first Bitcoin public address was on Keybase in 2017... Boy have things changed.

Oof. I am starting just now, getting seedsigner for self-custody, moving sats away from exchange.

I like what seed signer is doing. I have not used their product but I have paid attention to them. That's another thing. After spending Fiat on many commercial solutions and finding seed signer, I'm tapped out on wanted to spend our do more. It's the bleeding edge.

Conservative and slow is the best as early adoption takes much energy.

I wish you well.

may I ask what’s your criticism besides the struggle with the channels?

We work hard on making it easy and preventing closures. but unilateral exit without relying on the other party also means that the LSPs can close channels for various reasons. it’s part of the security model of lightning. (still annoying and not understandable for users often)

and why did you not recover your sats? closed channel just means the sats are onchain in your wallet.

I have the seed for the on chain wallet at 5 months later it is still empty.

but you have deleted the node?

where do you then check that it is empty?

I have the seed phrase of the wallet and I used another wallet to watch any activity. I always back up the information.

It's worked in a different set up that I did later.

this will not work sadly (again due to how lightning/ldk works, you don’t want to know :) it is often not recommended to use the same seed with different wallets.

we have guides https://guides.getalby.com/user-guide/alby-account-and-browser-extension/alby-hub/backups-and-recover

I will revisit but I tried the recovery to in November and it was a no go.

Thank you for attempting to get at the truth. For me it is exhausting to explain over and over and over. The technology changes so fast.

hehe, yes… don’t get me started :) the fruits for being an early adopter.

we all make it better for everyone…
