Replying to Mindaugas

I rarely want any service with the app that I buy. When I want it, I am happy to pay for it, too. But I don't want to pay for a fact that developer keeps tuning the app all the time. I pick a version and buy it. That's it. I will buy a new version if I want to sometime. If you offer me a discount if I "return" the old version when buying a new one - that's fine. But I don't want to enslave anybody to sit on producing updates that I do not need.

Also an idea about pricing the open source software: if you are driving in France past a sunflower field, you will often see a poster welcoming you to pick a stem and leave 2eur in a box for it. Tips appreciated, but 2 eur is specified. Why not apply the same to open source software? Plus a discount for the ones just upgrading from an older version.

I'm not sure you realize how many of the kinds of apps we're talking about here depend on an expensive backend to allow for interaction, connectivity etc. even if distributed.

Other than that, you're right. If I want to use Photoshop, I'll buy it once, thanks. https://once.com/

That is a nice article.

In terms of Nostr related tools for me it is not much:

- Amethyst has a nice banner asking for donations to the developers of a particular version. The only problem is they do not specify a price.

- Relays should be asking for subscription payments. And some do. The only problem is that the ones that do ask for payment are paid only. To compensate the free ones, it is actually difficult to even find a way to pay them. And they never remind me to be paid.

Nostr.land is REALLY simple and straightforward to subscribe and I get a private note telling me when my subscription is almost over.

Chm. I don't. But now I purchased annual subscription for nostr.land We will see of I get a reminder in a year.
