Yup. I've known about that for decades, since big cities started to run CNG busses.
it's completely bonkers to not use gas if you have it nearby. it's only transporting it long distances that sucks, because of efficiencies of scale in the containement systems. my mother used to have a friend who was a taxi driver and he ran his car on gas.
government is the enemy, no doubt about it. the market would solve this problem. the market would have gas for areas with local access, diesel for long range and coal for heat and power for industry. instead we have retarded intermittent solar and wind, no storage capacity without extremely expensive lithium batteries (in pollution cost, and fire risk).
the biggest downside to gas for cars is you can't really safely park them underground. omg. fine for an above ground carpark tho.
