This is why I would never knowingly buy an appliance that required me to connect it to the internet. There is every expectation that it is horribly insecure, and time and time again this turns out to be the case.
The only reason people find out about these problems are when they are exploited, or when someone like me reverses the protocol in order to reveal what is going on behind the scenes.
