I go back to Twitter once per week, and there’s obviously way more engagement and many more normies to piss off, which I enjoy. But I am throttled there, and it’s a deal breaker.
NOSTR is really limited audience and engagement wise but if I make a post, my followers see it. That’s the promise Twitter broke.
I’m also a content creator, and it’s people like me who make Twitter go. That they would fuck with that is a fatal mistake, IMO.
The creators who are bought off are already co-opted. They might post interesting or truthful things for now, but soon, like an earnest young person trying to make a difference, they will be captured. At some point, they will self-censor so as not to risk losing that ad money. Or they will say it anyway, get in trouble, learn the lesson and leave.
There’s no end game for a centralized platform except co-option or excommunication. Twitter can’t have its creators undermining Elon, Tesla and the platform itself even if that’s exactly what needs to be said.
That said, he’s smarter than his heavy-handed predecessors so it might squeeze out more years, but better to be here, building a life in a free-country, so to speak, even if I have to leave some of my wealth behind.
The one thing that bothers me most about NOSTR is all the nyms. Very few people ID themselves here. I think it should obviously be allowed, but what is the point of free speech (or defending it) if you’re not willing to exercise it with your name attached?
It’s like you’ll shout something while hiding in the shadows, but you won’t stand up and own it.
I get why. I just think it’s way less powerful.
