I haven't said anything about this publically, and it's still something I'm just mulling over, not an actual plan, but...

I've been thinking about trying to put together a #crowdfunding campaign to buy parts for building a big batch of #HestiaPi thermostats.

The thing is, I'd need a lot of money to order parts in bulk so I can keep the costs reasonable per unit. Like probably at least $4000 USD to build 30 units.

I just don't know if there's enough interest in open source #hardware to make it a reality. And even if there is, I don't know that I can get the word out to them.

What do you all think?

Interesting enough to spend ~0.0036 BTC for an #openSource, wifi accessible, touchscreen #thermostat. It's similar to a #Google #nest except that it doesn't snitch on you!

Uh I'm actually way interested. I use a Honeywell zwave so it can't spy on me but it eats batteries and has unreliable signal no matter how many repeaters I put around the house.

I currently make them just a couple at a time and make them available to people to are not able to build them themselves, be it a lack of time, tools, knowledge, or any other reason.

I also surf the forum to help people who have issues, whether they bought it from me or built their own.

I'd be happy to sell them for #bitcoin too, of course.

To build one or just get more info:

A crowdfunding campaign would let me buy components in larger quantities and get the prices down. The risk, of course, would be that I end up with a huge batch of parts that are incompatible. 😱
