I always wonder about this issue. What’s the point of being able to say anything if we are all using nyms? I’m not saying we shouldn’t use them but just wondering
Nyms not only protect you from the state. But they protect you from what other people think about you. Not having your identity attached to you online means you are more likely to say what's true than what makes you popular or cool. That's a key reason for me using a nym anyway. It removes peer pressure which is a huge thing
I agree with all that. It just sucks that you can’t freely express yourself in person because of how others might react. Even on nostr, I hesitate to share too much of my thoughts on religion because it’ll upset some people.
Yeah true. We are culturally backwards in that sense. And will likely not change overnight 🙄
I think it’s always been like that though. Humans are tribal and we can’t seem to break that group think mind virus.
