**π» Buy My Chinese Lab Tech a Beer**
In case you didn't know, I teach at an international school in China. I've recently been guiding a Chinese coworker of mine into the labyrinth that is Bitcoin. I've gotten him set-up with a Bitcoin wallet. But I keep thinking, eventually I want him to understand lightning...
But I'm a fan of self-custody... And I can't very well tell him,
>"Okay, so just download nostr:nprofile1qqsrf5h4ya83jk8u6t9jgc76h6kalz3plp9vusjpm2ygqgalqhxgp9gpz4mhxue69uhk2er9dchxummnw3ezumrpdejqzyrhwden5te0dehhxarj9ekxzmnyqyt8wumn8ghj7un9d3shjtnwdaehgu3wvfskueq555fk2, and buy some inbound liquidity with their LSP with a 1 million sat channel. And, OH! let's be private and use MPP, so let's make THREE 1 million sat channels... Wait, what's that, you don't have 3 million sats?? Come on, why are you so poor?? I've spent hundreds of dollars setting up a personal server to run my lightning node, I route whole bitcoins through my set-up!"
*Okay, sorry, I'm digressing too much, but you get my point, onboarding to self-custodial lightning has challenges for someone who owns no bitcoin and doesn't earn or save a lot (yet) in bitcoin.*
So, meet **jadeswan86**β not his real name obviously, but I've set him up with a **coinos.io** as a stop-gap measure for him to see the power of lightning and nostr and community.
His wallet is:
```jadeswan86@coinos.io```
Unfortunately it IS custodial, but has some positives. It's a **based** Canadian company (soon to be the 51st state of the US π) that is **private** and has ways for you to withdraw (via lightning, or more importantly for my coworker, to his on-chain wallet) when you've hit a certain threshold.
I'm sure you've all seen those posts where someone says, "hey I just got my taxi driver to sign up for **WoS** and accept bitcoin". I love sending a few thousand sats to people like that.
As much as I try to avoid things like **WoS**, they are a good starting point for beginners to accept small sums of bitcoin.
## So here's what I propose, send my mate a **beer** ($7) or a **coffee** ($4).
I'm trying to get him set up with a nostr account soon. Hopefully he can use it to get hooked up with his other privacy focused Chinese brethen. Dude is super based and has a lot of contempt for his government.
He was so curious how I got my blog "out there" and I told him about a decentralized sort of Twitter.
He doesn't **need** your charity. He doesn't complain. This is just something fun I wanted to do for him.
**But just being real, locals make shit here.**
That's it.
For obvious reasons I can't give you his real name or send a picture as proof that he exists, but he **IS** on telegram as **@Maxstar_pro** if you want to say hi. Ask him something in Chinese π or something.
Do it **for the LULZ.** Imagine his face when a stranger in Canada or Brazil buys him a beer. π»
**Send any amount** (even 500 sats = Β₯3.5 helps!). Add a note: _βCheers from [your country]!β_
_P.S. If you can't spare the sats, share this post!_
