Eye movement tracking and prediction is not something to take lightly imo
Discussion
Fr, so much you can learn about a persons mind from that data, esp. when combined with ai
Not a new tech, already done and used on phones. 🐶🐾🫡
Its a massive resolution increase. And the camera is in a fixed position relative to your eye.
That doesn’t really matter, camera doesn’t have to be fixed or stable to achieve same results. Resolution is also not that important, as long as it achieves certain level of emersion. 🐶🐾🫡
Fixed camera massively reduces the computation needed to get the same result
I was referring to camera resolution (also proximity to eyes) not screen
If you refer to camera resolution for the purposes of tracking eye movement, then it’s not that important. Generally it’s much more profitable for the company to track your online habits. Tracking your pupils and their movement in response to visual stimuli is probably great to analyze your psych, but that can already be done by just tracking your online activities and being less obvious to you.
I guess what I am trying to say is, there is nothing new or revolutionary about that tech, it’s just a fancier interface to the same things you already have. 🐶🐾🫡
there's 5000 new patents, i read - how is it something that already exists? sorry for my ignorance here, don't know much about patents
im v curious to know what's in the band that goes around your skull btw, do you know perhaps?
No idea about the band, but I am sure it has dual purpose. One is to keep the thing on your head, and perhaps more sensors.
Patents are given based on invention, and it could be very silly things applied in a different way. Don’t focus too much on patents, they are mostly for marketing purposes and to have a sort of benchmark for non-tech users. Most of the things are recycled tech applied in new ways. Or slightly more optimized way for doing what we’ve done in the past but at more cost. 🐶🐾🫡
thank you💜
it's directly tracking your optic nerve, your brain
That’s not how body or brain works, ser. 🐶🐾🤣
“They” ouuuuhh scary.
Companies already make ad changes based on human eye movements. Plug me in make me more productive.
Track my eyes all day you will find my interests, my thoughts? Good luck
Same as you phone, already done! 🐶🐾🫡
Photo cameras from 10 years ago had that tech, so do some phones and laptops. Anything else that is more intuitive than what we already have? Maybe more immersive? 🐶🐾🫡
idk have to go through all 5000 patents if I rly would like to know what's new with these goggles 🤷♀️
I do believe there's a significant difference in eye tracking compared to current smartphones.. i mean.. the distance to your pupils is way closer, isn't it?
it's very interesting..
"Generally as a whole, a lot of the work I did involved detecting the mental state of users based on data from their body and brain when they were in immersive experiences.
So, a user is in a mixed reality or virtual reality experience, and AI models are trying to predict if you are feeling curious, mind wandering, scared, paying attention, remembering a past experience, or some other cognitive state.
(...)
And these may be inferred through measurements like eye tracking, electrical activity in the brain, heart beats and rhythms, muscle activity, blood density in the brain, blood pressure, skin conductance etc.
There were a lot of tricks involved to make specific predictions possible, which the handful of patents I’m named on go into detail about. One of the coolest results involved predicting a user was going to click on something before they actually did."
And that’s cool! Better interface is always welcome. Imagine how many disabled people who cannot move their bodies will regain livelihood and connection with the world. 🐶🐾🤯
fascinating indeed
I’ll be super happy for all the people who couldn’t give a shit about their privacy, just to get to live their lives to a fuller extent. Think of all the people who are incapable to move their own bodies. I am all for development of such tech as long as it helps progressing our understanding of ourselves, and giving more people freedom to live their lives on their own! I guess that’s what excites me the most, only 3.5K bucks to gain control of some functions of your own body. 🐶🐾🫡
yea a silver lining then for them
And that’s exactly why none of that stuff is revealed to the apps you use. Apple specifically addressed that.
NSA dgaf
You already are surrounded by cameras, mics and GPS devices. Nothing new is added here. 🐶🐾🫡
way more sensors
btw more indications they can filter any content
That’s fine, but you are already buried in sensors. Apple Watch, iPhone, Alexa, Smart TV, Wifi based positioning, AirTag, online access, keyboard strokes, list goes on. Not like this new interface gonna revolutionize the way we can be tracked. It will not read your mind, but all activities that you perform online are already good indicators about your thoughts and behaviors and what makes you tick. 🐶🐾🫡
It will tho. Examining the eye is the closest you can get to mind reading without a straight up brain chip.
“Mind reading” is not the same as intent reading. It will probably be good at reading how you “feel” or respond to certain visual stimuli, but it will not be able to read what you are actually thinking or what is in your memory. Such tech doesn’t exist yet, due to a very limited understanding that we have about our own brains. 🐶🐾🫡
Lol, probably. They’ve invested pretty heavily in special secure chips so hopefully they can keep it secure. They’re definitely not perfect but they’re at least the most privacy focused of the big tech companies.
