Artume (also called Aritimi, Artames, or Artumes) was an Etruscan goddess who was the mistress of animals, goddess of human assemblies, and hunting deity of Neolithic origin. Etruscans later appropriated the Greek goddess Artemis.

So many of the artifacts in museums and private collections have been 'reappropriated'. It wasn't only the British who loved to do it, as you mentioned, the Greeks, and many other countries down the years have shared the blunder.
