You're the supreme leader of Frensistan. Is it better to be feared or loved?

I don't really subscribe to Machiavellian morals, so it would have to be loved even if I lost the title/role... At least the plebs probably wouldn't kill me in my way out of office.

That's a good point, being loved may be a safer bet for a peaceful retirement.

Being feared could mean you have more power for longer.

I don't care for power or doing the kids of things that one needs to do to keep it.

I really wonder how you got to be the supreme leader of Frensistan to begin with lol

Ride in on a wave of popularity 😉 haha... Actually that doesn't sound at all likely either.

Maybe it was an unwanted succession, father died and left you with the keys to the kingdom.

Porque no los dos?

They tend to be mutually exclusive, if someone fears you, they certainly don't love you and vice-versa.

You could have part of the population hating you and part loving you though

History would suggest feared is the better option.

Indeed it does, benevolent reforms never seem to land well.

Almost impossible to be universally loved as well.

Of course I would prefer to be loved. That's one of the many reasons why I'm a terrible leader.

You and me both, though don't underestimate your ability to switch.

Feared. You will be respected
