Sad how many people throw around this sentiment are old folks who have stopped learning or growing years ago demanding extra respect just for being old.

I don't know how old you are but if you run around doing whatever the average boomer tells you, well just look around.
I give everyone a fair shake until they show me they don't deserve my respect. By a wide margin most boomers don't have $age years of experience. They made it to about 30 and then lived the same thing over and over never growing at all as people. Then 24 hour news really got their hooks in and a bunch of them started going backwards in terms of emotional maturity.
If you wanna live your life blindly following a 2000+ year old aphorism instead of being guided by the evidence in front of you on a case by case basis be my guest. That life isn't for me. I plan to keep learning and growing so I actually deserve that respect when I'm old.
