Today in 1855, the HMS Resolute was found adrift off the coast of Baffin Island.

It had been abandoned by its crew 1,900 km away when it became trapped in the ice in 1853.

In 1879, it was salvaged for timber & the Resolute Desk was built from the ship's timber.
