Reposted. Hope we figure out what it is.

If I recall it happened for about a week. And after the scapes no more damage appeared.

Perhaps a seasonal bug or larvae

I appreciate that, Thankyou!

It just noticed it the other day, I think it is some type of larvae to tbh.

You got me curious and they are back.

Almost over night.

Definitely looks like larvae

That’s exactly it. I was just told now to try a 10% dish soap to 90% water solution and spray ontop and underneath the leaves

Works for other things. Ive always been told dawn is better as it breaks down easier 🤷🏼

Have you had a lot rain this year where you are?

Moderate. But i water lots in the early spring too

I haven’t watered once this year

Do you see direct? I do a combination of sew and transplant to kick off the year.

I find if i sew early with peas and onions and such I can get a head start on my short season.

This is our second season trying our hand at gardening. Last year, we did ok but only really did well with potatoes, lettuce, kale. All our onions died, carrots were very minimal, only a handful of cucumbers & peppers, and no beef tomatoes due to a round of blight in the area. Lots of people didn’t get tomatoes last year. First year, couldn’t really complain. We showed onion sets and the rest seeds.

We got the garlic bulbs in the ground last fall, and sowed more onion sets and seed for everything else this spring. Tomato plants we just buy about 1’ tall from our local farmers market.

Everything is doing very well this year, with the exception of this larvae problem on the garlic. Hoping it’s nothing serious, because that garlic is damn good!

You’re killing it.

You’re garlic will be delicious this year a d next 🤜

Did a bit more research, turns out it’s called leek moth. That’s the larvae we have on the garlic

Perhaps I’ll just take a walk through my patch and kill all the little suckers.

I just picked up the BTK spray and sprayed the garlic, spraying onions to be safe. Spray the buggers!!!

Try some Castile soap (dr.bronners), and red chili powder or chili powder oil and it keeps buggers off, mix with water and it’s cool for plants too 🫶🫶✌️

Atta boy.

I just ran through my garden and squished everything i found. Removed a few scapes. But gonna try it this way. If i notice more Tomorrow than today. The spray will be bought.

Let me know how it works out

Hey dude.

Wondering how you made out with your garlic so far?

I didn’t do anything to mine asides from hand squishing and removing manually that day we bounced off each other.

I hadn’t been back since. And now taking a look.

The leek moths are still there. But not as bad as it could be. 75% of my crop have scapes

Mornin☕️

I actually squished all that I could find, then sprayed with the btk and then covered the garlic and all the onions with a mesh.

I actually just cut all the scapes off yesterday. 🤙🏼

Would you happen to know what these are? I planted a row of kale, but these 2 both started growing also. One root is like a yellow/white and the other is a purple tone.

Nicely done. Just about to cut my scapes this morning.

Looks like you got some seeds mixed in. Bonus turnip? Or something similar it looks like.

That’s exactly what I was thinking, wonder if it’s a turnip?

Update.

Not all my garlic is infected.

Last year all my garlic had the larvae.

I found this little bug near by.

I think my eco system is healing itself so I’m going to not treat the larvae and see what happens.

Last year I did nothing and was able to harvest and replant to double my yield for this year.
