Hypothesis as to one reason why Gen Z and younger don’t drink alcohol nearly as much as previous generations: young people do incredibly stupid things while drunk (even worse than older people who have tolerance, experience and more maturity), and they are a smart phone generation where anything might get recorded.

IOW, too many people embarrassed themselves not just for a night as we did, but forever, and collectively they just understood it was a bad idea to go there.

They’re also objectively poorer than prior generations and booze is expensive

The Greatest and Silent generations drank less than their forebears for economic reasons too

It was illegal when some of them were growing up too. But think they still drank way more than the current younger generations.

Maybe. I've thought about it recently too and can't come up with anything other than using drugs and alcohol is an escape, maybe they're getting the same escape with phones and technology, the urge is met. 🤷‍♂️ Either way I'm happy my kids aren't using. Me at their age, was doing it all, but nowadays the risk of a getting laced product is extremely high.

Yeah, it’s a good thing, either way.

Also it's way more difficult to get the stuff

best stories from my highschool times are embarrassing. we still lol on them 25 years later
