Toyota has announced a breakthrough in combustion engine technology with its new hydrogen combustion engines, which promise zero emissions—only emitting water vapor as a byproduct[1][2][3]. These engines deliver impressive power and maintain the familiar driving experience of traditional combustion engines while eliminating harmful pollutants associated with fossil fuels.

The technology is different from electric vehicles (EVs) and even from Toyota’s earlier hydrogen fuel cell vehicles like the Mirai, as it burns hydrogen directly in a modified internal combustion engine rather than using fuel cells to generate electricity[6]. This approach offers advantages such as faster refueling times (similar to gasoline cars) and reduced reliance on scarce battery materials like lithium and nickel[6].

Toyota’s hydrogen combustion engines are part of its strategy for carbon neutrality and aim to provide a sustainable alternative to both gasoline and battery-electric vehicles, especially in regions where hydrogen infrastructure is expanding[1][2][6].

The production of H2 is extremely energy intense. Storage and transport infrastructure of H2 is very expensive.

So why don't put the electric power directly into batteries instead breaking of the water molecule with immense energy (electrolysis) to produce O2 and H2? And burn it later again into water???

A whole industry will earn a fortune for this silly energy turnaround....
