When you pay relays to publish your content, you are a paid advertiser, despite the fact that you may have nothing to advertise. You're providing cover for actual advertising to blend in unnoticed.
Nostr is not immune from becoming a hellscale of advertising like the legacy web already is. Resist this by rejecting paid relays. ✊🏼
I'm confused though. Running a relay is an expense no? Should we not chip in to those running good relays?

There is really nothing wrong with good advertising done right...
It's the intrusive abuse of our personal information we want to avoid.
In an ideal world, we'd all publish what value we have to offer, goods, services, etc. to make them easy for others to find.
We all want and need to be able to find the things we value.😁
