I think sunscreen can be an extra layer of protection. However, better to first 'improve" the innate sun resiliance by reducing the amount of seed oils in the diet and increase animal fat.
Reason is that the body uses whatever fat it gets to build cells and seed oils consist of primarily highly oxidative polyunsaturated fats that decay much quicker than saturated fat from animals (e.g. butter, lard). Consumption of seed oils has increased massively sich 1900 .
The decay of these seed oils in your skin leads to less resilience towards sun radiation (skin cells get damaged) = you burn more quickly.
Additionally, the decaying seed oils break up into toxic compounds.
Lots of people on a largely animal based or even carnivore diet have experienced an improvement in the time they can spend in the sun without getting burned as well as quicker recovery if burned. I've had this experience too.
Might be worth considering. No harm in trying out.
