Because everyone is at least bothered enough to no longer be able to ignore what's happening near them and around the world, if not completely fed up, as the Nepal case so aptly symbolized.

The problem is that most people have no idea what to do to prevent these kinds of problems, and even fewer understand them and are willing to do something truly useful to solve them.

Furthermore, in today's world, things happen faster and faster and are increasingly visible, so seeing and talking about politics is gaining more and more prominence.
