Ours tries to play with crickets but they never survive 😂. Although she's figured out she has to gently grab them with her teeth.

Same. Cricket lifespan definitely reduces with proximity to our house. Thing is, in Costa Rica we have to try to train them hard not to investigate things too much. I kinda think it works. Came back once and found a very defensive and angry looking scorpion in the middle of the living room. Both dogs watching it from a few feet away and not interacting.
