What's really annoying about my bible is that almost half of every page is footnotes, and the footnotes are never helpful. This is trash. It makes me look at the whole book and see it as just more fiat disease. It serves an expectation of appearance - the heft, the almost transparent pages, the shiny sides. Fuckin trash. Its like one of those ridiculous McMansions, with the design flares that serve no function. Its all appearance. Then the only real selling feature is the ease of reading it, but to make it easy, they sacrificed the depth of meaning, which gets into my main criticism of modern Christianity, which is that people autistically demand simple, nonvariant meaning and flatten the whole thing into an image, which makes it idolatrous. And this bible I have is like a representation of that.
I'm going to have to get a Bible that puts Greek and English side by side. There's a name for that, but I forget... Hebrew is a project for later. Greek first.
