I was listening to my previous pastor give a sermon on the church of Laodicea. He used his daughter as an example in the beginning of the sermon and I saw something we can learn from it.

They go around the table at dinner time giving every member of the family a chance to talk. Their 3 year old daughter was giving a list of what she wanted for Christmas: a Barbie belt, a Barbie bike, and a Barbie gun. He told asked her if she really thought these things would make her happy. She replied, “yes.” His wife spoke up and said that things don’t make us happy. Jesus makes us happy. All we need is Jesus. The little girl piped up, “and makeup.”

Too often we think we need Jesus plus something else to make us happy. We are not content with Jesus alone. I also thought the makeup was an appropriate extra. Makeup is something used to cover up blemishes without fixing them. It often makes the blemishes worse in the long run.

What is your “makeup”? What are you adding to Jesus? What are using to cover up your sins, your sadness, your unfruitfulness?

All we need is Jesus. He should be our all in all and what we desire more than anything else.

And not only we don't need Jesus plus something, when we become Christians and believe the gospel we don't lack anything anymore. We are complete in Jesus

Colossians 2:8-10 KJVA “Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:”
