I try to see those replies as opportunities to avoid judgement. To let their words wash over me without getting under my skin.

I forgive them for being loose with their words & yes I also feel a little sad & sorry for them.

I don't think that they realise the effect that this action has on their experience. I know that it usually has little effect on my experience.
