If you have significant unprocessed trauma, your brain will come up with stories that justify those emotional echoes from the past that run through your body—stories that are far fetched and most often completely wrong. This is true regardless of intelligence. That’s why when I assess experts, I consider emotional maturity before everything else.

How do you determine whether one is emotionally mature?
Ability to regulate emotions is a big one. If a person has a propensity to get fits of anger, or to become suddenly cold/unempathetic, or other emotions that seem disproportional to the situation… those point at trauma.
Another is addictions: drugs and alcohol of course, but also more subtle addictions like food, work, even working out. It’s tricky because you don’t want to pathologize every person, or dismiss uncomfortable truths because the messenger has a different lifestyle than yours. But yeah I try to at least consider these factors.
I think everything you’re saying is 💯 true but often much more concealed in business or at the very least takes time and situations to come out. So not necessarily clear for when hiring someone as an SME.
I feel you… I have misjudged people many times in the past, because of my own blind spots. And oftentimes these issues only reveal themselves over time. “Trust everyone, check everything” is a heuristic I’ve heard use by a business once 😄
How does one know if one has unprocessed trauma?
Generally when you notice in yourself an inclination to avoid. Avoidance to think of particular things, to spend time with yourself, to feel what feelings would naturally come up. (This imo is the root of all addictions) Nightmares can be another indication, as it is the subconscious at work.
I looked in to this about 26 years ago. From what I could tell, nightmares were simply a mechanical way for the brain to sweep garbage data out the back door as it filed info into longer term memory. Have there been more discoveries since that time?
I would spend quite a few sats to sit down and talk to Tuur for days - an honest, decent, reliable and truthfull man. When you are next in the UK and open to meeting people who are not just bitcoiners, if you have the time and the desire, do DM me. If not, I completely understand. In that case, I'll just earn my way to a conversation via adding skilled value to blockstream or unchained.
It is my belief that your example of being a decent person will reap rewards beyond what even you have emagined.
100% - i see this a lot from contrarian “experts” who have a psychological need to feel cancelled and counter-cultural.
