I tried to crush mine down, but I’m sure if you have some larger pieces it’ll still be okay.

Big pieces are fine. Roots will run right through that. I’ll bury half bury logs often in new gardens.

As long as the innoculant can get into all the pores, it doesn’t matter all that much. I don’t have any pieces bigger than an inch for that reason. If it’s too small, it can wash away or blow away in the wind.
