🌊 SURF 'N TURF 🏝️

-THE ISLAND LIFE-

This is one of most beatifull objects in the collection at the British Museum.

Stylistically and anatomically ıt's a masterpiece. We're looking at a marble grave relief depicting a Greek warrior from 1st century BC Rhodes.

The warrior is wearing a cuirass and helmet and the serpent at the base represents the soul of the deceased. It depicts the soldier wearing the armour from an earlier period-the mid 5th century BC.

Reminds me of archangel Michael. Very similar to a statue in Mont St Michel.

Can't find a picture of it, but its the same design - he's stabbing a serpent ("dragon") with a long lance. Stone sculpture, set in an alcove... A real shame the search engines don't have it

Pretty close - almost exactly the right pose.

yes, it's a very famous sculpture and also a painting so there are different versions with slight variations.
