" this is my _workbench_, dammit, it's not a pretty box to impress people with graphics and sounds. when I work at this system up to 12 hours a day, I'm profoundly uninterested in what user interface a novice user would prefer." - Erik Naggum
i like GUIs but because most of them are implemented in OOP languages they are buggy and inconsistent and badly documented and the code implementing them is unreadable
i hate that intellij IDEs are java but at least they aren't javascript
the symbol indexing they do is priceless though, i'd be lost with out that, and Go has one of the most transparent and simple schemes of symbol definition and scoping of any of the languages used these days... I open C/C++ stuff in Clion and it still doesn't know where half of the symbols are defined
I had heard of `dewm` as a go-based Window manager but have yet to try it, have you? Getting gui's to play nice with my musl-based distro is tough and just not something I have had pressing need for at the moment. 🤣
hah well if you're running a system on musl libc ya gotta do what ya gotta do
there is another Go WM called Wings also i think... but these are most likely CGO bindings to X libraries
Go's GUI libraries are all pretty much suck... someone put me onto this one called cogent that looks like it might actually not suck
Go TUI libraries are currently unmatched though, and that's all I care about kek. 🤣
indeed, and i currently am making a small revision to my logger to get some informative colours
but it occurs to me that i could easily build a really nice logger TUI that lets me manually filter log levels, match on keywords and manually change the log levels at runtime...
i was building something like this a long time ago with a GUI, and to do this i had to build a proper scrollbar for the toolkit i was using, but it would be super easy to do with a TUI
