Friedrich Merz: "The Americans openly interfere in an election"
Following a provocative speech by US Vice President JD Vance at the Munich Security Conference, CDU Chairman and Union chancellor candidate Friedrich Merz spoke with DW correspondent Michaela Küfner. Merz firmly rejected Vance's claim that democratic values and freedom of opinion are being restricted in Europe. At the same time, he reiterated that European states must do more for their own security.
