#flashbackfriday to 2020 when I met the legend Oscar Lopez Rivera, a revolutionary who paid the ultimate price for his country. He was convicted of sedacious conspiracy to overthrow the u.s. government for an indirect role in a series of bombings by La Fuerza Armadas de Liberación Nacional that targeted financial institutions and military buildings in the u.s. empire and was given a heavy-handed 55-year prison sentence. He came to my uni on a tour after his sentence was commuted by Obama (of all people) in 2017 and to this day I follow him around Puerto Rico to document his work building people power around the archipelago by constructing community health centers and resourcing neighborhoods and schools in Black-majority pueblos like Loiza. Some in the imperial core will call him and other freedom fighters like Hamas "terrorists", but we know who the real terrorists are here and the imperial context that produces revolutionary violence. Hasta la victoria siempre!
