I wonder how many changes have already been made and how many node runners already picked up those updates

The author’s key concern is still alleged about proposed changes in a future update(some are made about ordinals but that’s separate). Keys in cold storage cannot be affected, and if you have any concerns you can choose not to upgrade your node.
