American politics starts to makes more sense when you learn that modern Democrats were called Federalists and modern Republicans were formerly the Democratic Republicans.

Federalist = big government more taxes

Dem. Republican = small fed. government more emphasis on states rights, anti national banks.

This begs the question why do they teach Americans we are a constitutional Republic when in fact we are a federation.
